Today’s subject is in which way one should be
nourished and to the topics she has to pay
attention.
First of all, there is no direct relationship
between becoming pregnant and nourishment. That
is to say, both nourished insufficiently and
thin women can become pregnant easily just like
the others.
The nourishment condition prior to the pregnancy
affects both the mother and the child. It is a
well known fact that, the babies of the mothers
who are nourished with insufficient protein are
in low-weight.
10-14 kg should be gained during the course of
pregnancy. 3-4 kg of increase in the weight of
the mother is observed in the first half of the
pregnancy and the ones who gain more weight in
pregnancy can encounter with the risk of high
tension. Compared to that, for ones who are
nourished insufficiently have the risk of
prematurity. The most important thing here is
the fact that, one should gain 400-500 g every
week beginning from the 20th week (4.5 months)
of pregnancy. If the amount is high,
carbohydrates should be reduced.
During pregnancy, protein need is increased by
%30 therefore; yoghurt, milk, cheese, beans,
lentil, and egg should be eaten.
In the second half of pregnancy, on the other
hand, mother’s need of iron and folic acid
increases. Hence, mother should start using iron
and folic acid under the control of a doctor.
Since we do not have the habit of drinking milk
in Turkey, calcium may be obtained exteriorly.
Throughout the pregnancy, indigestions and
burnings may be monitored. So, nutriments which
cause gas should be taken in low terms.
Furthermore, in order to prevent reflowing (food
may not reach to the mouth), mother should
neither bend nor lie forwards. Moreover, a
pregnant woman should prefer to have high fibred
nutriments (i.e. fruits, vegetables, bread
containing bran), she should even put a spoon of
bran to the yoghurt. Water consumption is the
most prominent. Mother should expend minimum 2
liters of water. If the mother does have neither
edema nor tension, there is no limit in salt
consumption (though, iodine salts should not be
used). Tea and coffee should not be consumed
frequently and it is definitely harmful if the
mother smokes or drinks alcohol.
In the first months of pregnancy, nauseas and
throwing ups may occur. In this case, pregnant
should eat less and frequently. In extreme cases,
though, one must be taken to hospital. Regarding
fatness and pregnancy, one should go on a light
diet (this ought to be mineral and vitamin
supported specifically therefore, pregnant
should drink half kg of milk, eat an egg, fruit
and vegetables containing very low fat every day)
of minimum 1200 calorie per day but this should
be carried out definitely under doctor control.
Consequently, “sufficient and balanced
nourishment is the basis of health”.
All have a great day…
